Immured, enclosed, and cumbersome
The reticent noble lies on stone ground.
Along the edge of the cage
Pressed up against the bleak black archaic bars
Viscid, infected, water pools.
Cast there
-a plaguing-
Cast there
-reflection-
Toes bruised, disfigured, stubbed
Blood tracing around each nail
And tar forming on the soles.
Haunted by the judgments of the affected
The penniless, the frail, and the abandoned
Their ghosts were once at the belly of the inmost well, but have now risen to roil around the ceiling of a hollow conscience
Laughing and spitting feathers
Sobbing and lashing barbed whips
Perilously gasping for attention.
But the silent noble sees, and hears, and tastes nothing
but the potent rooted iron.
Nothing more haunting than that foul sordid reflection.
